Site details
Site description: Large flat depression within the wide Dzhanibekskaya plian. Since 1962 this depression was irrigate and used as agricultural lands. As a result of artifitial irrigation many lands became salt and then were transfermed into pastures.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: During spring migration from 25000-50000 up to 100000-150000 waterfowls are stopping here for the rest and feeding. Number of birds depends from lwater evel. Bird species include Branta ruficollis, Anser erythropus, Anas platyrhynchos, A.acuta, A.querquedulla, A.clypeata etc. For more details about bird number special investigations are needed
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-20 (BL Secretariat): IBA area changed from 9600 ha to 9030 ha (following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 49°15'34'N 45°25'45'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 9030 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
