Site details
Site description: A complex of shallow lakes interspersed with strips of land, reed margins, wet meadows and improved grassland, located to the north-east of the city of Gouda.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The average seasonal peak number of waterbirds during 1992-1996 was more than 20,000.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: name and area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Hunting in the southern part of the site causes disturbance to birds. A compensation scheme is in place for those farmers affected by restrictions on agricultural practices.
