Site details
Site description: The site comprises reedbeds, scrub and wet meadows alongside a canal, and adjoins the River Lek (an arm of the Rhine) south-west of the city of Utrecht. Human activities include reed-harvesting (`Other' land-use). This site, together with site 080, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL042) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
