Site details


Site description: Sands with sparse vegetation on the first terrace of rivers Don and Medveditsa. Sands are needed to be not used for agriculture. Narrow meadows surrounds the shallow water, which located between ridges and hillows.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-20 (BL Secretariat): IBA area changed from 33,500 ha to 36,520 ha (following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 49°35'38'N 42°47'50'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 36520 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).

Habitats


Summary of habitats in KBA: There are about 20 private cows which are grazed at the area. For best conservation no more agriculture should be at site. Also some meadow plants will be good to growh here as there is a large wind errosian happened at area.
