Site details


Site description: An area of forestry plantations and dry heathland, located between the villages of Nijverdal and Holten. Forest stands consist of deciduous/mixed woodlands and conifer plantations of various ages and under varying management regimes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site holds the only viable population of Tetrao tetrix in the country.
Delineation rationale: 9 March 2017: area edited. Now equal to the designated Special Protection Area (Birds Directive).
