Site details


Site description: Low-lying flood-plain surrounded by alluvial fans in the vicinity of the villages of Pitvaros, Tótkomlós and Csanádalberti. Wet saline grasslands cover the majority of the site, with loess grasslands and arable fields on the higher ground. Human activities include grazing, arable farming and hunting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: An important area for steppic birds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (2-6 wintering birds), Otis tarda (15-25 resident individuals).
