Site details

Site description: System of several fresh water lakes not so far from Caspian coast to the south from Kizlyarskiy Bay.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Also Platalea leucorodia, Plegadis falcinellus, Egretta alba, E.garzetta, Ardea cinerea, A.purpurea, Ardeola ralloides, Nycticorax nycticorax, Ixobrychus minutus, Anthropoides virgo, Himantopus himantopus etc. are breeding on area. But there are not data about their number by moment.
Delineation rationale: 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 44°15'24'N 46°47'57'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 23600 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
