Site details


Site description: Huge mouth of the Don river with a lot of meanders and meadows. Located to the west from Rostov-na-Donu and to the north from Azov towns.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-04: IBA area changed from 53,800 ha to 86,400 ha (Caucasus IBA book 2009). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 47°9'32'N 39°22'31'E on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
