Site details
Site description: El Cerro Urutaní forma parte de la Sierra Pacaraima y se encuentra al sur del estado Bolívar, en la frontera entre Venezuela y Brasil (Mayr y Phelps 1967). Este tepuy presenta una cumbre boscosa. La vegetación es variada, caracterizándose por la presencia de bosques ombrófilos montanos y submontanos perennifolios, de altura media y alta, densos, con dos a tres estratos arbóreos y un sotobosque bien desarrollado. La vegetación herbácea y arbustiva está conformada por comunidades bajas, dispersas, colonizando depresiones y grietas sobre las areniscas de la cumbre del tepuy (Urbina 1992). Este ecosistema se caracteriza por presentar una diversidad de flora y fauna con un alto grado de endemismo (Fundación Terramar 1993).
