Site details


Site description: The site consists of two major areas. One is lowlands and wetlands between Lake Furenko and Lake Onneto, and another is a terrace which surrounds the lowlands. The alluvial lowland on the coast around Lake Furenko is covered with sand gravels, and the river basin is covered with peat. Vegetation includes lowland and wetland vegetation, salt marsh vegetation on the river basin, natural grassland on coastal sand hill, conifer and deciduous forests and aquatic plants in the lake.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
