Site details


Site description: Ezogadate reservoir, which is located in the west of Aomori Prefecture, is an agricultural reservoir surrounded by apple farms and rice paddies, and Phragmites australis and Salix grow in and around the reservoir. The reservoir becomes full of water in spring while the water is drained in autumn, and the whole surface is frozen in winter.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
