Site details
Site description: A lake system, partly formed from disused peat extraction pits.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: In total up to 6000 geese, 50000 ducks (Anas sp), 150000 diving ducks stopover during autumn and spring migration.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-06: the IBA equals the Zakaznik, but the official area of the Zakaznik (6,142 ha; WDPA GIS polygon = 5,763 ha) is known to be too small - the site is at least 9,700 ha, therefore the area of the IBA is left at 9,700 ha for the moment, until the official Zakaznik area is updated. 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 60°38'9'N 29°24'13'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 9700 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
