Site details


Site description: Otomonuma, located in the northwestern part of Akita Prefecture, is a farm pond with depth of water at about 2 m. There are reed beds. Low hills lie in the north and south. In the north are forests of Pinus thunbergii and Quercus serrata, and shrubs. In the south are forests of Pinus thunbergii and Cyryptomeria japonica.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
