Site details
Site description: Located in Nenjiang County. Keluo He Nature Reserve is in the middle reaches of the Keluo He river, which is a tributary of the Nen Jiang river. It lies in a transition zone between the Xiao Hinggan Ling mountains and the Nen Jiang plains. The area comprises meadows, patches of forest and plantations, and is rich in water plants.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: More than 1,000 ducks and geese occur in the spring. Non-bird biodiversity: Thirty mammal species have been recorded. Nationally protected plants include Fraxinus mandshurica, Juglans mandshurica, Betula verrucosa and Fructus schisandrae.
