Site details


Site description: Located along the border of Tongjiang and Fuyuan counties. This was the first nature reserve established in the Sanjiang wetlands. The forest patches provide breeding sites for Ciconia boyciana.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Twenty-five mammal species have been recorded in the area, including seven that are nationally protected. Nationally protected plants include Phellodendron chinense, Fraxinus mandshurica and Juglans mandshurica.
