Site details

Site description: Located 30 km south of Da’an City and 5 km west of Changshan Town. Chagan Hu is the tenth largest freshwater lake in China, and is the most important fishery and reed-production area in Jilin Province. During the migration seasons more than 50,000 individual birds are estimated to occur in the IBA.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: The area lies within the historical ranges of Procapra gutturosa, Canis lupus, Vulpes vulpes and Mustela sibirica, but their numbers have declined.
Delineation rationale: Digitized by Wendall, boundary appears spatially accurate, but could be made more detailed
