Site details

Site description: Located on the east coast of the Liaodong Peninsula between the Biliu He and Dayang He estuaries, with a few smaller river estuaries and salt water lakes or lagoons. The IBA has a complex coastline with wide tidal flats, many bays, reedbeds and salt marshes. It is an important stop-over for migratory waterbirds, but there is high pressure to convert the wetlands for aquaculture.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: New polygon digitized by Tris Allinson at Birdlife International using Google Earth
