Site details
Site description: Located on the middle course of the Ili River, 70 km south-west of Yining City and 530 km west of Urumqi, with the western part of the IBA adjacent to Kazakhstan. The complex topography includes ridges and river valleys. The IBA is a breeding and staging site for birds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Panthra uncia, Ursus arctos, Vulpes vulpes, Cervus elaphus and Sus scrofa.
