Site details


Site description: Located 240 km east of Kashi City and 850 km south-west of Urumqi. The IBA is at the confluence of the Yarkant and Kaxgar rivers, and includes Xiaohaizhi and Honghaizi reservoirs.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: The area supports the fish Pelochelys bibroni, and animals include Vulpes vulpes, Euchoreutes naso and Dipus sagitta.
Delineation rationale: Boundary digitized by Tris Allinson at Birdlife International using Google Earth. Accuracy difficult to determine.
