Site details
Site description: Located in the northern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains. The IBA has high mountains and river valleys, and at 3,000-3,400 m there are dry river valleys, at 3,400-4,300 m there is Picea likiangensis forest on shaded slopes and Juniperus chinesis forest is dominant on sunny slopes, and at higher altitudes there is alpine scrub and grassland.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals including Macaca mulatta, Selenarctos thibetanus, Cervus albirostris and Cervus elaphus.
