Site details
Site description: Located in the northern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains, along the Jinsha Jiang river (the upper reaches of the Yangtze River). The vegetation shows vertical zonation, with arid montane deciduous scrub below 3,400 m, Picea likiangensis forest on shaded slopes and Juniperus chinesis forest on sunny slopes at 3,200-3,900 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 3,900 m.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
