Site details


Site description: Located in the mountains around the upper Lhasa River, near the middle reaches of the Yarlong Zangbo river. The habitats in the IBA include scrub of Spiraea spp., Salix spp. and Rhododendron parvifolium on shaded slopes at 4,100-4,900 m, Sabina tibetica forest on sunny slopes, meadows at 4,900-5,200 m and high-mountain alpine vegetation above 5,200 m, with bare rocks above and no glacial development.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected species include Ursus arctos and Moschus sifanicus.
