Site details
Site description: Located on the southern slopes of the central Himalayas, at the southern tip of Nyalam County, with Nepal to the south. The IBA has high mountains and deep valleys. The dense vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen forest (1,600-2,500 m), coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (2,500-3,100 m), alpine coniferous forest (3,100-4,000 m) and alpine scrub (4,000-4,500 m).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Presbytis entellus (a primate endemic to the Himalayas), Ursus arctos, Selenarctos thibetanus, Ailurus fulgens, Moschus chrysogaster and Capricornis sumatraensis.
Delineation rationale: Polygon from World Database of Protected Areas (WDPA). Accuracy difficult to determine.
