Site details
Site description: Located in northern Gansu, with the border of Inner Mongolia to the north. The IBA is generally flat, and the Shijun He river flows throught it. The main habitats are desert and steppe. Several reservoirs (Ximahu, Zihu, Hongya) have been constructed along the river, and there are also several saline wetlands along the river.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: The Liangucheng reserve was established for the conservation of Mongolian Gazelle.
