Site details

Site description: Located in Luqu County, with the border of Sichuan Province to the south. Ga Hai is a highland lake with c.5 km2 of open water area and an average depth of 2-3 m, which is fed by mountain streams and precipitation. The outflow from the lake is the Tao He river. The area has a sparse human population and animal husbandry is the main activity. Over-grazing has caused problems of desertification.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: Polygon from Conservation International (CI). Probably fairly accurate.
