Site details


Site description: Located south of Maqu County and adjacent to the Zoige (Ruo’ergai) marshes in Sichuan to the east. The main habitats in the IBA are grassland and wetland, with flooded marshland where the Yellow River flows through the east of the site. The area is sparsely populated, mainly be Tibetan herdsmen.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
