Site details

Site description: Zoigê marshes have a total area of nearly 1,000,000 ha and extend from northern Sichuan into southern Gansu (where they are included in the two IBAs, Ganligahai-Zecha Nature Reserve [CN165] and Huang He Shouqu Nature Reserve [CN166]). This IBA is located in the west of Zoigê County. It is a mosaic of small lakes, ponds, freshwater marshes, ox-bow lakes and channels, with extensive areas of marshland plants.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Felis manul, Equus kiang, Felis lynx, Lutra lutra, Moschus sifanicus, Pantholops hodgsoni and Pseudois nayaur.
Delineation rationale: Polygon provided by Wendall, source unknown. The boundary is probably inaccurate.
