Site details


Site description: Located in the transitional area between the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with the highest point Dafengding at 4,042 m. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen forest from 800-1,800 m, broadleaf evergreen and deciduous mixed forest from 1,800-2,200 m, coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest from 2,200-2,500 m, coniferous forest from 2,500 m and 3,500 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 3,500 m.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Budorcas taxicolor, Moschus berezovskii, Ailurus fulgens, Felis temmincki, Neofelis nebulosa, Macaca mulatta, Macaca thibetana, Panthera pardus, Moschus sifanicus and Pseudois nayaur.
Delineation rationale: Polygon provided by Conservation International (CI). Accuracy difficult to determine. 2018-02-21 (BL Secretariat): the 2004/2009 IBA Dazhubao and Dafengding (190,000 ha; SitRecID 15547) represents the amalgamation of the following three KBAs (kept as separate non-bird sites in WBDB, for now): Mabiandafengding Nature Reserve (31,988 ha; SitRecID 23194), Meigudafengding Nature Reserve (18,059 ha; SitRecID 23242) and Jueluohuo (4319 ha; SitRecID 23221).
