Site details
Site description: Jinfo Shan is located at the eastern edge of the Sichuan Basin. The reserve was mainly established for the protection of Cathaya argrophylla. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with subtropical coniferous forest below 1,500 m, broadleaf evergreen forest from 1,500-1,900 m, and alpine meadows above 1,900 m.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Cathaya argyrophylla, Davidia involucrate and Tetracentron sinense. Nationally protected animals include Presbytis francoisi, Macaca mulatta, Panthera tigris amoyensis, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Manis pentadactyla, Viverricula indica and Viverra zibetha.
