Site details
Site description: Located in the Zhongden area of north-western Yunnan. The IBA is a high-altitude marsh, surrounded by high mountains (3,800-4,449 m) in the east, west and north. The lake extends 10 km from north to south and 2.3 km from east to west, and there is 500 ha of open water even in the dry season. There are also shallow water marshes and meadows, which are the main habitats for wintering Grus nigricollis.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
