Site details
Site description: Hongfeng Hu is located on the upper Maotiao He river (a tributary of the Wu Jiang), with the dam in Qingzhen City, and is has a surface area of 57.2 km2. Baihua Hu is located on the middle reaches of the Maotiao He river, with the dam located in Guiyang City, and is has a surface area of 14.5 km2. These lakes are now national and provincial tourism spots, respectively. At Hongfeng Hu most of the waterbirds aggregate in the northern part of the lake, while waterbirds at Baihua Hu are mostly found in the bays with the least human disturbance. Guiyang City has caused water pollution in the area, as has the development of tourism.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
