Site details
Site description: Taihang Shan is on the boundary between the warm temperate region and the temperate region. The IBA has well preserved broadleaf forests typical of both regions. Taihang Shan Macaque Nature Reserve is located on the southern slope of the southern Taihang Shan mountains, and the main submit Tiantan Shan reaches 1,715 m. The nature reserve has a core area of 6,173.5 ha.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Cercidiphyllum japonicum and Sinowilsonia henryi. Animals include Moschus berezovskii, Naemorhedus goral, Macaca mulatta and Lutra lutra.
