Site details

Site description: This is a typical wetland of Henan Province with good numbers and diversity of waterbirds. It is located in the hilly area on the western slope of the Dabie Shan mountains, where there are more than 30 scattered reservoirs and much agricultural land. Shishankou Reservoir is the gathering point of the water from the surrounding area, with extensive marshes in the vicinity. The water quality is good, with dense vegetation cover. A survey in December 2001 found c.25,000 waterbirds, including about 10,000 Anas poecilorhyncha and A. platyrhynchos.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: Polygon provided by Wendall – source unknown. Accuracy probably poor.
