Site details

Site description: The IBA extends c.40 km from north to south and comprises mudflats in the Huang He (Yellow River) in Heyang County. The Huang He river channel is becoming wider in this region, because of reduced flow rate and increased sedimentation. This has resulted in the extensive growth of reedbeds in the area, which are favourable breeding habitats for waterbirds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
