Site details


Site description: Hongze Hu is located in northern Jiangsu Province. The lake area is c.196,000 ha, and it is the largest reservoir in the Huai He region. The western part of the lake has extensive areas of wetland plants, and the remaining parts are largely open water.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
