Site details


Site description: Guanshan Nature Reserve is located in the north-west part of Yifeng County, 60 km from the county town. The core area of the reserve is 1,200 ha, and the experimental area is 1,000 ha. The nature reserve is located on the southern slope of Huanggangshan, in the central Jiuling mountains. Most of the area is above 800 m, with the highest point at 1,480 m. The forest in the IBA is well preserved with little human disturbance.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Amentotaxus argotaenia, Taxus chinensis, Cyclocarya paliurus, Emmenopterys henryi and Bretschneidera sinensis. Animals include Manis pentadactyla, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha, Neofelis nebulosa, Felis temmincki and Lutra lutra.
