Site details


Site description: Jinggang Shan Nature Reserve is located in Jinggang Shan City, and it has a core area of 3,266 ha. It is a northern extension of the Nanling mountains, and it lies within the central subtropical region. Forest cover is 87.6%, and there is prominent vertical zonation of the vegetation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Fokienia hodginsii, Tsoongiodendron odorum, Bretschneidera sinensis, Emmenopterys henryi and Ginkgo biloba. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Manis pentadactyla, Capricornis sumatraensis, Viverricula indica, Viverra zibetha, Lutra lutra and Naemorhedus goral.
