Site details
Site description: Wuyi Shan is located on the boundary between Fujian and Jiangxi provinces, and is the watershed of the Gan Jiang and Min Jiang rivers. There are more than 10 mountains over 1,800 m in the reserve, with limited areas of river basin and agricultural land.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Ginkgo biloba and Bretschneidera sinensis. Nationally protected insects include Teinopalpus aureus. Animals include Felis temmincki, Neofelis nebulosa, Panthra uncial, Lutra lutra, Selenarctos thibetanus, Viverricula indica and Viverra zibetha. There were records of Panthera tigris amoyensis in the 1960s.
