Site details

Site description: The Min Jiang estuary is located on the south-eastern coast of Fujian Province. The IBA includes the rural parts of Fuzhou City, Minhou County, Changle City and Sandu’ao. The habitats in the IBA include streams, coastal areas, river basins, hillsides and islands. The estuary is a staging area for migratory and wintering birds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: Original boundary digitized by Gill Bunting at Birdlife International using Google Earth using material from various sources. Accuracy difficult to determine. 2012-12-17 (BL Secretariat): the original site boundary has been clipped to the coastline (marine areas removed) to avoid overlap with the new marine IBA identified adjacent to this site in October 2012; site area has been correspondingly reduced from 730000 ha to 156910 ha.
