Site details
Site description: Nan’ao County comprises 23 islands and is located along the eastern coast of Guangdong, on the border between Guangdong and Fujian provinces. Wuyu Dao Island is located in the south-eastern part of the county, and forms Nan’ao Migratory Birds Nature Reserve with other islands such as Chi Yu, Ping Yu and Baihan. The island has a maximum length of 250 m, and a maximum width of 150 m. The vegetation is mostly herbaceous.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
