Site details
Site description: Shiwan Dashan has a north-east to south-west orientation, running through Shangsi, Fangcheng and Qinzhou counties. The topography within the area is rugged. The climate on the southern slopes is moist and rainy, while on the northern slopes it is hot and dry.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) The site has been reviewed and re-confirmed as a KBA in the process of compiling the revised 2011 CEPF Ecosystem Profile for the Indo-Burma Hotspot.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Panthera pardus, Manis pentadactyla, Viverra zibetha, Macaca arctoides and Presbytis francoisi. Important plants include Alsophila spinulosa and Camellia chrysantha.
Delineation rationale: Shangsi, Qingzhou and Fangchen counties. 2013-08-07 (BL Secretariat): site area has been reduced from 174,500 ha (2004 pan-Asian IBA book) to 58277 ha (2009 national IBA book), following reduction in PA boundary.
