Site details
Site description: Diaoluo Shan Baishuiling Nature Reserve is located in the south-eastern part of the Wuzhi Shan mountains, and is one of the most important watershed forests in Hainan. The vegetation in the IBA includes lowland rainforest, valley rainforest, submit evergreen forest and secondary evergreen monsoon rainforest.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. The site has been reviewed and re-confirmed as a KBA in the process of compiling the revised 2011 CEPF Ecosystem Profile for the Indo-Burma Hotspot.
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Viverra zibetha, Viverricula indica, Macaca mulatta, Manis pentadactyla, Muntiacus muntjac, Cervus unicolor and Python molurus. Nationally protected plants include Dacrydium pierrei, Dacrycarpus imbricatus, Gmelina hainanensis and Manglietia fordiana.
