Site details
Site description: Located on the cape of south-western Hainan, the IBA is the second largest nationally-managed salt pan in China; salt pans of a similar scale have become scarce in southern China. The salt pans have recently been abandoned and have subsequently become a roosting site for some 20,000 migratory waterbirds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Delineation rationale: Boundary digitized by Gill Bunting at Birdlife International using Google Earth. Accuracy probably OK.
