Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified in the CI/CEPF Conservation Outcomes poster for Sumatra [Sundaland Hotspot] (2007). Taxonomy, nomenclature and threat status follow the 2004 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: The important species in this area is White-winged Duck Cairina scutulata. This bird was not found in 1991 (Giesen & van Balen 1992).Follow-up survey on July-August 1999 in 12 locations in this area did not get a visual contact. Secondary information from local people says that three mounths before the survey the White-winged Duck was seen and a pair were flying for feeding (Wibowo 1999). Non-bird biodiversity: Other biodiversity include Macaca fascicularis, Macaca nemestrina, Presbytis cristata, Presbytis melalophos, Amyda catilagenia and Pyton reticulatus (Giesen and van Balen 1992, Wibowo et al. 1999)
