Site details
Site description: Describe as mongrove forest, swamp forest, and herbaceous swamp. Probably, mangrove forest and swamp forest cover an area around 2000-3000 ha.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This area is the biggest known habitat of Milky Stork Mycterea cinerea in the world. The colony located in open mangrove on swamp area around 1-2 km from the coast, and estimated 300 nests present. Air survey on 1-2 September 1988 estimated :400 Great Egret Egretta alba30 Lesser Adjutant Leptoptilus javanicus150 Milky Stork Mycterea cinerea (including some juveniles).Tidal mudflat is probably important for waders during migration, but the information is very limited. Follow-up survey is needed to assess the birds status.
