Site description: Located around 65 km south of Surabaya. Gunung Arjuno (Mount Arjuno), one of the highest mountain in Java, is located inside this area.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Trachypithecus auratus (Nijman 1997).
Habitats
Summary of habitats in KBA: Montain rainforest including fine examples of cemara forest (Casuarina junghuhnia). Other forest ecosystems include Festuca grassland and alpine vegetation over 3000 m (MacKinnon et.al.1982)
