Site details
Site description: Describe as steep slopes, located between 800-1500 m elevation, and almost all area is unoccupied, only some of Penan villages in isolated river valley. The way of life of the people is nomadic and practised shifting agriculture, hunting and gathering other forest product such as 'gaharu', bird nest etc.This area is reported as one of virgin/pristine forest in Kalimantan (Momberg et.al. 1998a).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Sujatnika et.al (1995) describe the following species occured in this area, Mountain Barbet Megalaima munticola, Hose's Broadbill Calyptomena hosii and Bornean Whistler Pachycephala hypoxantha.
