Site details

Site description: Forest and steppe habitats bordering the left bank of the River Don with steep slopes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Only a short survey was carried out in 1996, so bird information is incomplete.
Delineation rationale: 2009-08-17: IBA area changed from 120,000 ha to 109,985 ha (by BL Secretariat, following RBCU spreadsheet of changes that need making). 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 49°5'42'N 43°42'4'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 109895 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
