Site details
Site description: Wae Wuul is a grassland on the beach with several small group of forests (MacKinnon et.al.1982). Topography of Wae Wuul is hilly with steep slopes (around Gunung Manis), with the highest elevation 300 m asl.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: The endangered Flores Crow Corvus florensis lives in this area. Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea found in this area un to 1989 (Mochtar 1989, Trainor & Lesmana 2000). Probably, the Yellow-crested Cockatoo came from Rinca Island.
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 3000 ha to 4552 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
