Site details
Site description: This area is dominated by spectacular volcano of Gunung Lewotobi, which has two peaks (Laki-laki (2263 m) and Perempuan (1703 m)) which erupted in 1971, 1972 and 1991(Monk et.al. 1997).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: This area is one of five of important areas for birds and other biodiversities, and has some of rare bird species in Flores. Flores Green Pigeon Treron flores occured in tropical deciduous dry forest. Yellow-crested Cockatoo occured near the beach (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 4200 ha to 9832 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
